Day One: Auckland to Rotorua, (320km) Start 8.30am. Assemble from 7.45am
Saturday 9th March (SH’s 1, 39, 3, 30, 1, & 30) Day Leaders –
- Depart BP Drury and head south (also SH1) and head south 70km until Ngaruawahia
- At Ngaruawahia turn right at the BP Stn into SH 39 and follow for near on 44km to Pirongia.
- Catch-up stop at Pirongia outside the Alexander Tavern on the main drag.
- Continue south for 30km until Otorohanga, and then turn right into SH 3
- Follow SH 3 south for approx 6km for our morning tea stop
- Morning tea at www.bigapple.co.nz SH 3 Waitomo
- Continue south passing through the main street of Te Kuiti near town’s end take the SH 30 route eastwards.
- Follow SH 30 for 8km until Mangakino passing through Benneydale enroute
- Lunch at Bus Stop Café, 1 Lake Rd, Mangakino
- Continue heading east for 9km on SH30 passing through Whakamaru
- Stay on SH30 (also known as Ongaroto Rd) for another 21km until the SH1 junction near Atiamuri.
- Turn left into SH1 and head north (also SH30) for 9km, and then turn right into SH 30 again
- Follow SH30 for 35 km until approaching the outskirts of Rotorua.
- Turn left into SH 5 which leads into Fenton Str, the motel strip of Rotorua.

Day Two: Rotorua to Hicks Bay, (340km) Start 8.30am
Sunday 10th March (SH 5, 38 , undesig, 30, 2 & 35) Day Leaders –
- Depart on SH 5 for 26km southward until Waiotapu Jct and turn left into SH38 (the Waikaremoana Rd)
- Follow SH 38 for 37km until Murupara.
- Catch-up stop at Murupara Four Square
- Head out of Murupara on the Galatea Rd for around 60km to Te Teko.
- At Te Teko turn right into SH30 again and follow for 25km to Whakatane
- Morning tea at Whakatane in the main street at a café. Park near the New World.
- From the morning tea stop head over the hill to Ohope Beach and turn right into Wainui Rd.
- Follow Wainui Rd for 17km to meet up with SH2. Turn left into SH2 and follow for 20km to Opotiki.
- Follow SH 2 (also known as Bridge Str) through Opotiki and turn left into SH 35 (Also St John Str)
- Catch-up stop at Blue Moon Four Square on St John Str, Opotiki
- Continue for another 66km on SH 35 until Te Kaha
- Lunch at the café at www.tekahaholidaypark.co.nz on the main drag in Te Kaha
- Depart Te Kaha and continue eastward on SH 35 for another 82km to Hicks Bay
- Overnight at www.hicksbaymotel.co.nz 5198 SH35, Hicks Bay (motel)
Day Three: Hicks Bay to Napier (390km) Start 8.00am
Monday 11th March (SH 35 & 2) Day Leaders –
- Depart Hicks Bay at 8.00am and head south on SH35 for 90km until Tokamaru Bay
- Breakfast stop at Te Puka Tavern 1km along Beach Rd on your left as approach Tokamaru Bay.
- Continue for another 90kms south to Gisborne, stay on SH35 and make you way through Gisborne.
- Depart Gisborne along Gladstone Rd (the main drag) which 8km later rejoins with SH2, and
- Continue south on SH 2 for 60km to Nuhaka and at Nuhaka take the Mahia Peninsula turnoff.
- Head towards Mahia via Oputama Rd and take the first right into Ormond Dr.
- Coffee Stop at the Sunset Point Bar & Bistro, Newcastle Str, Mahia Beach
- Return to Nuhaka and turn left into SH2 and head west 42km to Wairoa and another 60km to Putorino
- Pub Stop at Waikare Hotel, 5466 SH2 Putorino, Napier
- Continue south-west on SH2 for 60km to Napier. SH 2 interesects Kennedy Str as you approach the CBD.

Day Four: Napier to Feilding (260km) Start 9.00am
Tuesday 12th March (50, undesig., 1, undesig., & 54) Day Leader -
- Depart Napier on SH 50 for 13km until Fernhill and turn right into Taihape Rd
- Head east on the Taihape ‘Gentle Annie’ Rd for the next 150km (7km of gravel)
- As you complete the Gentle Annie Rd, turn left into SH1 and head into Taihape
- Lunch at Laura’s Café in Taihape
- Continue south on SH 1 for 21km until Mangaweka
- Turn left into Ruahine Rd and follow for 41km until you reach Kimbolton, where the road renames into Kimbolton Rd
- Pub Stop at the Commercial Hotel, 2899 Kimbolton Rd, Kimbolton (ask Dennis Gaskell, he is the Mayor of Kimbolton)
- Continue south for 27km on Kimbolton Rd passing through Cheltenham to Feilding for our accommodation.

Day Five: Feilding to New Plymouth (340km) Start 8.30am
Wednesday 13th March (54, 1, undesig., 4, 3 , 45 & 44) Day Leader –
- Depart Feilding and return northwards on the Kimbolton Rd 13km to Cheltenham
- At Cheltenham turn left into Cheltenham – Hunterville Rd and follow for 29km to Vinegar Hall/SH1 Junction.
- Turn left into SH1 and head south for 5km to Hunterville, at Hunterville turn right into Bruce Str
- Bruce Str leads into Onga Rd and follow approx 5km and then turn left into Mangahoe Rd for approx 8 – 10km
- At the terminus of Mangahoe Rd, turn left into Turakina Valley Rdand travel for a few kms, then turn right into Mangatipona Rd
- Follow Mangatipona Rd for +/- 10km and at a t-junction turn left into Kaunagaroa Rd for again approx 10km.
- Kaungaroa Rd leads (now renamed Main Str) into the settlement of Fordell
- Continue along Main Str (also known as No.2 line) for around 8 – 10km and you enter Wanganui via Durie Hill.
- Go down Durie Hill and turn left into SH4 and less than 1km later cross over the Victoria Str Bridge into Wanganui’s CBD.
- Proceed out of Wanganui on Great North Rd (also SH3) for a few kms.
- Morning tea stop at www.oggies.co.nz 53 Wilson Ave, Wanganui (runs seaward side parallel to Victoria Str)
- Catch-up stop 90km later in Hawera at the junction of South Rd & Waihi Rds (also SH3 & SH45)
- Another café stop somewhere around Southern Taranaki – still to be sorted…
- Proceed on the Surf Highway (SH45) which is the coastal route to New Plymouth.
- Catchup stop about 20km after Opunake at Cape Egmont Lighthouse, turn left into Cape Rd, and follow for about 6km.
- Return out of Cape Rd, and turn left into SH45 and its around 50km to New Plymouth.

Day Six: Rest Day at New Plymouth ‘ do your own thing’
Thursday 14th March December
Day Seven: New Plymouth to Raglan (320km) Start 9.00am
Friday 15th March (SH 44, 3, undesig., 31, 39 & 23)
- Depart New Plymouth heading north along Devon Str which rejoins with SH3 and head north for 75km to Mokau
- Breakfast at the River Run Cafe, North Str, (alsoSH3) Mokau
- From Mokau head north a few kms through Awakino and near to the Petrol Stn, turn left into Manganui Rd
- Continue along Manganui Rd heading northwards 33km until Waikawau Jct (about 12km of this is gravel)
- Detour left on Waikawau Rd for 5km to the Tasman Sea
- Back along Waikawau Rd to the Jct, and turn left into Mangatoa Rd, carrying on northwards 28km to Marokopa
- Catch-up stop at the Marokopa Camping Ground & Store, Marokopa.
- Leaving Marokopa, Mangatoa Rd leads into Marokopa Rd and 20km later at the Te Anga Jct, turn left into Taharoa Rd
- Travel along Taharoa Rd for a few km and at the first junction turn right into Te Waitere Rd
- Te Waitere Rd leads into Harbour Rd, and follow for 20-25km to Oparau.
- Lunch at www.oparauroadhouse.com From Oparua head west 27km to meet SH39, turn northwards
- Proceed northwards along SH39 around 40km until the Whatawhata Junction.
- Pub Stop at the Whatawhata Hotel, SH 39 Whatawhata
- Travel westwards for 33km to Raglan on SH 23. As you approach Raglan SH 23 leads into Bow Str.
- Overnight at Harbourview Hotel, 14 Bow Str, Raglan. (hotel) more info www.raglan.net.nz
Day Eight: Raglan to Auckland/Mangawhai (290km) Start 8.00am
Saturday 16th March (23, undesig, 22 & 1)
- Depart Raglan back out SH 31 for 14km to Te Uku, and turn left into Ohautira Rd for 24km to Waingaro Jct.
- At Waingaro Jct, turn left into SH 22 and follow northwards for 70km to Tuakau.
- Approaching Tuakau take the Harrisville Rd for 12km, to link up with the main Bombay – Pukekohe Rd.
- Turn right into the Bombay – Pukekohe Rd Jct (also known as Mill Rd)
- Catchup stop at the Bombay BP Motordrome.
- Continue northwards on SH 1 to Auckland and Mangawhai.
Points to Note:
- Evening meal venues will be organised by someone at for example RSA’s,Cossie Clubs or the like and its
possible one night we may have a get-together cook-up
- All breakfasts, morning teas and lunches will be self-catered with the exception of breakfast at Mokau on Day Seven.
- Morning tea and lunch is your own choice off their menu-boards.
- Day Leaders are to liase with the morning tea and lunch venues for each day (if that’s the case).

Day Leaders Requirements
- Study up the route that your’ve been allocated, and where necessary lead the group so that they don’t get lost.
- Ensure that we start on time each day, and to keep the ride in go-forward mode.
- On arrival at a lunch stop or morning tea stop, ascertain where/which café (if applicable) we’re going to be dining at.
Some meal stops are all-ready pre-determined, eg, Te Puka Tavern at Tokamaru Bay
- Notify everyone of the restart time after each morning tea and lunch stop, or a scheduled stop.
- Account for everyone at the various catchup stops with ‘tail-end charlie’ Robert (‘tail end charlie’ for the whole tour)
- On the days with pub stops near the destination, make sure everyone is aware of the pubs location.
- Study the fuel requirements for the days ride and the location on fuel stations if the ride is in a remote area.
- Organise with the motellier on arrival the allocation of people & rooms etc.
- Liaise with xxxxxx and get people ready to get to the place on time where the evening meal is to be held.
